The complete collection of 15 documents, comprising over 600 pages, sheds light on the general economic and social benefits of Free and Open Source Software (F/OSS). The reports propose ways to overcome national barriers of F/OSS adoption, discuss how to improve the usability of F/OSS, outlines a F/OSS curriculum for educational purposes and offer hands-on tips on setting up a Linux laboratory for schools.
“Free and Open Source Software is right on track in Europe”, says Kaan Erkan, Project Coordinator of tOSSad. “The time is ripe for mass adoption of F/OSS. Within our surveys and workshops we experienced many successful examples of F/OSS solving critical problems in entering the mass market. There is still a need for the continued improvement of usability and a better understanding of how to sell F/OSS to public administrations. In this respect the tOSSad reports provide in-depth
information and useful guidelines for daily use. We welcome others to pick up on our suggestions and to help foster the use of Free and Open Source Software in Europe.”
All tOSSad reports are available for download from www.tossad.org/publications.
In post-industrial economics, a new source of the economic environment's competition advantage is the strengthening of both one’s personal potential to act and the organisation’s as well, by access to “knowledge” in regards to utility and development. In this context, the creation of a “knowledge” based Europe was, even from the Lisbon Council of March 2000, the main goal of the EU. Among it’s conclusions, the Council includes a new strategic objective, that the EU become “the world’s most competitive and dynamic knowledge based economy”.
The aim of the workshop is to sharpen the sustainability discussions.
This event is organize by consortium of Euro_Net_Develop (European Network Promoting a Socio-Economic Model for Local and Regional Sustainable Development) project in a frame of Romanian Program Excellence Research supported by the Ministry of Education and Research. Participants and Partner organisations in the Workshops, were able to initiate and influence the design and content of future activities for a new action program.
The next event is planned to take place in 24-25 August 2007.

More practical conversations with business economists are needed, not just including the traditional economists like macroeconomists.
The main scope of this event is to gather experts from academic, political and business environment for debating the main challenges for socio-economic aspect of local and regional Sustainable Development.
This edition aims presenting information and new analysis methods that will contribute to the European effort in appreciating the performances of socioeconomic development.
